Any renting horror stories? 1 Year, 10 Months ago Karma: 2
Fortunately I never had horrible landlords when I was in college, but I have heard some really bad stories. Has anyone here had a bad experience/learned a lesson the hard way that they would like to share with the rest of us?

While I had good landlords when I was in further education, I will never forget some great advice I was given.

ALWAYS ENSURE THAT YOU HAVE AN OFFICIAL AGREEMENT AND EVERYTHING IS WRITTEN DOWN.

This can always be used as your "weapon" in the event of your landlord being awkward or unreasonable. Always look after your yourself!

having worked for companies that rented to students I would have to agree, never sign anything before reading it. If you feel uncomfortable with something in the lease then do not sign it. I have seen people get into a lot of trouble with landlord when they moved simply because they did not read what they were signing.
