There are quite of few grants out there for each state, do not forget to ask for them, I have attended school in a few different states and I think by far new york had the best programs, so make sure you check state programs as well, they are usually dispensed based on the amount of tuition you would pay.

For anyone that is graduating from a California high school, make sure you look into the governor's scholarship for decent standardized test scores. I was able to get $2500, which more than covered my two year stay at community college.
Also, good performance on AP exams can yield some grants, especially the science and math related topics.
Always be on the lookout!

I know for Virginia, all you have to do is talk to your financial aid office and if you were awarded grants according to your FAFSA then you might qualify for the state grants. Most that I have seen are strictly based on how needy you are, but I have been that needy and they can be a great resource.

yes, most states have several grants and even scholarships as well. Applying for those can save you a lot of money on your education. I think that many people are just uneducated when it comes to really knowing what is available to them.
