If you are attending an actual physical camppus you can apply for work study it is a great way to save a few bucks on your education, just check work study when filling out your fafsa or ask your school about it.

I did work study at a community college I attended when I was younger. I think it is a great way to help yourself and let the school know you are invested in your education. You don't get paid much, but hey, every little bit helps.

A work study can give you excellent experience and can also provide a good addition to your resume. When I was in college I had a work study in the water testing lab. Later on I got a job working in a water lab running an Atomic Absorption Spectrometer. I remember my interview very well and it was my work study experience that actually landed me that job.

Working while you're in college also gives you some discipline and regularity to your schedule. I didn't do work-study but did have a library job for 3 years and worked in the cafeteria for 1. Just having something like that to provide some sort of structure to a very flexible schedule helped me utilize my free time a lot better I think.

I agree with both of you. It does offer you that experience for your resume. My work study was done in the computer lab. What great experience to say that I could not only help with the "customer service" side but also the PC side. I had to do some minor troubleshooting and assist the students in any way that I could. When we were slow, I was able to work on class work and I always knew that hey, I am doing something other than goofing off.

Work study is a way to gain additional experience while going to school and a way to make some money. I think that everyone who thinks they need to work a little while going to school should attempt this.
